The Search Continues

Ashpaw's black pelt stuck out in the light colored sand, and as she walked her paws sunk into it. She didn't much like the sands, they were colder than the forest and the type of familar undergrowth that would usually be found in the forest was absent here. Her fur was ruffled as a stiff breeze blew across the quiet setting, no trees to block it's chill. Ashpaw couldn't imagine why any cat would sneak off to come here, but she wasn't going to loose hope that easily, Skitterpaw might still be safe.

As the black apprentice began to lift her head to taste the air she hesitated. If Skitterpaw wasn't here, then there was nowhere else to look for her. If she tasted the air, and caught no scent of the other apprentice, what could they do? Don't think like that, she told herself. But as the wind blew once again in her direction, it did not bring the scent of any other Ivoryclan cats. Ashpaw turned around, "I don't think she's here," she called to Swiftflame and Flowerpelt, the worry in her voice barely disguised. This was not a good sign.

"I don't think she's here..."

Swiftflame's heart sped up as she too tasted the but and found nothing but the scent of the sands. A cold breeze ruffled Swiftflame's fur, and she returned Ashpaw's worried stare. With an enormous effort, Swiftflame overcame her instinctive urge to panic, took a deep breathe, and tried to form a plan.

"Well, Silverstripe has already alerted Patchstar, and I'm sure others in camp have heard about this as well. Chances are they've sent out a search party, or soon will. Our best hope of finding Skitterpaw will be if we try to meet up with the search party and comb the forest. Even if we don't find Skitterpaw, we might find the reason that she's not here."

Still crushing the panic down deep within her, Swiftflame turned and headed back towards the forest, signaling with her tail for Ashpaw to follow.
