Darksong rolled his eyes, "What am I? The medicine cat? Sheesh....." He really didn't want to help Starredmyst out. He had his own problems to deal with. Then again, Patchstar was a problem for both of them, "He's been hearing voices? Wow, I didn't think he was that crazy. Well, I guess if it's what StarClan wants then there's really nothing you or I, or anyone can do about it."

"Apparently StarClan are mistaking you for a medicine cat," Starredmyst retorted, her sarcasm as heavy as Darksong's, then sighed.
"I'm sorry; I'm being rude. And I'm not entirely certain why I'm apologizing to the Master of Impoliteness himself, either, but -- never mind. Listen, I'm...I don't know how much you know about my relationship with my father, but -- let me just say that I know him very, very well. And --" She hesitated, taking a deep breath. The decision had come to her only in the last few moments, but it was one, because of the few principles she did believe in, the she-cat did not believe she could deny. She closed her eyes to steady herself and, somewhere deep inside of her, sealed off a wall between what she loved and what she knew was going to be.
"Darksong, I choose to follow StarClan. Not my father. Not tradition. StarClan, and -- what's right. So -- if StarClan trusts in you and not Patchstar, it's you I'm willing to turn to. I'll stand by you if -- if the need comes."

This conversation was making Darksong feel kinda awkward. He had no idea what to say to her. The only thing that came to mind was, "Well....I have a feeling the time will come. At least, I'll make sure it does 'cause there's no way we can keep living like this."
Then the moment happened that Darksong hoped wouldn't. Mothflight appeared.
"Darksong, did you go talk to him?" Mothflight didn't pay much attention to Starredmyst's presence.
"Yes. Now go away I don't need to be babysat!" It annoyed him to no end how Mothflight would tell him what to do and treat him like an idiot.
"Well, what did he say?"
"That it wasn't important."
"....but it is very important."
"Try telling stupid lard sack yourself then and leave me alone!" Darksong growled, nearing the point of losing his temper.
Mothflight's eyes narrowed, "Fine, you want me to leave you alone? Then don't talk to me about your stupid dreams, or anything else again!" He then stormed off towards the camp exit, fuming mad.
Darksong didn't say a word. He just kept his focus on his paws. He glanced up at Starredmyst for a moment and sighed.

Starr had been embarrassed by her speech and Darksong's reaction to it; she had been fully prepared to turn tail and hide as soon as Darksong had acknowledged her -- well -- fealty to him.
Then Mothflight showed up.
The high-born young she-cat managed to regain some of her composure as the brothers shot insults at one another, to the point where she was wearing a wry smile at Mothflight's last words. She flicked her tail, expression supercilious, as the tom stormed off.
"Kind of him, isn't it?" she remarked to Darksong quietly, a smile flickering around the edges of her muzzle. "Is he prone to temper tantrums, your brother, or was I privileged to hear that little bit of rudeness?"

Darksong sighed and told her, "No, usually I lose my temper before he does. He's just been really moody towards me lately." It was much more common for Darksong to yell at Mothflight than the other way around. Darksong had noticed them fighting more and more and slowly drifting apart. It bothered him quite a bit, but he wasn't going to tell Starredmyst that.
He then changed the subject, "Perhaps I should just deal with my uncle on my own then, since Patchstar doesn't seem to care if he steals prey and rapes our she-cats." He said in a rather nonchalant tone.

Starr rolled her eyes at Darksong's words, thinking of her own brother. How long had it been since she'd even seen Darktalon? Oh, he was still the pampered pet of those cats who chose to follow her father's every whim -- that was why she hadn't spoken to him in so long, and the reason for the rift between them.
"It seems to be going around lately," she said dryly, by way of answer. "And -- well, with D -- Patchstar acting the way he is, you may have to do just that. Let me know if you need help with anything."
She hesitated uncertainly, ready to turn and flee from this awkward confrontation -- when a loud yowl echoed from the den they'd just left.
"ARGHHH! SOMEBODY GET IN HERE, THERE'S A SNAKE..."
Starr sighed. "That's my cue." She turned tail and whisked off into her father's den, steeling herself to get rid of the "snake" (since when did they live on beaches?) -- and, afterwards, have a serious talk with her father.
{END THREAD AFTER WAY TOO LONG.}
