On My Own [Riss/Open]

Snowsong was silent for a long moment, and once again Riss wondered anxiously if he'd said the wrong thing. He opened his mouth to apologize -- and then Snowsong's tail accidentally brushed against his pelt.

He felt a strange sort of jolt, as if the spot she'd touched were suddenly on fire, and felt himself redden under his fur. Now, embarrassed despite the fact that Snowsong couldn't have a clue why, he glanced down and away.

"So, um." His tail flicked and there was an awkward silence. StarClan, it was hard to keep a one-sided conversation going; Riss had never been gifted with the ability to keep a normal one alive, let alone coax one out of a she-cat that clearly wasn't accustomed to talking. "We should do something sometime, or something. Hunt or something."

He could have kicked himself. It would have sounded pathetic speaking to anycat, but the fact that he barely knew Snowsong made the sentence about six times worse.

Snowsong's ears slightly flicked, and she lifted her gaze to face Risingdawn. "Well.....I'm..kinda free right now....." She closed her gaze, thinking that it was stupid. She barely knew Risingdawn, and she was already agreeing to spend time with him.

Snowsong then reopened her gaze, and she turned her gaze to her paws. Her tail slightly swung from side to side again, only more contained.

"Well, then, sounds good to me." Risingdawn shifted, embarrassed, and added to hide his own awkwardness, "Fine pair we make, huh? Bet anyone listening to this conversation would be laughing their heads of right now. I sound like an idiot."

He hadn't meant that last bit to escape, but it did. He looked away, torn between hiding his face and laughing at himself, then stood up quickly (narrowly missing a twig in the ear for the movement). "Well, let's go then! The forest or the sands? Let's see who can catch the most -- I think Silv's inspired me for once."

Snowsong's ears slightly flicked, and she turned her gaze to Risingdawn. She then got to her paws, and she padded a couple of mouse-lengths closer. She ducked her head since a few twigs were above her head, low enough to smack her in the face.

"How about the sands? I haven't been there in a while..." Snowsong had just gotten from the forest, and she decided to refresh the feeling of th sands. She then padded a few more paw-steps and eventually exited the bush. Her gaze scanned the area as she waited for Risingdawn.

Risingdawn ducked out from the bush as well; he winced as the twig that had almost gotten him earlier scraped against his ear and pulled said ear back against his skull, then hurriedly caught up with Snowsong. "The sands it is, then. I was just out in the forest earlier, myself."

A small crowd was gathering over by the sunning rocks. Doubtless Silv was about to make her plunge into the water, with her challenger standing gloatingly by the pile of prey. The Clan would eat well tonight, at least, Riss thought with amusement, and turned to go with Snowsong while his sister was still distracted.

Snowsong turned her gaze back to Risingdawn. As he reached her side in a second or so, she turned around. She began to pad toward the exit of camp. Her paw-steps were silent, and her gaze was slightly narrowed.

Snowsong then exited the camp, and she once again gazed over her shoulder. She then turned around and began to pad slower. That way, Risingdawn would take the lead.

Snowsong fell back and Riss took the lead out of camp.
