"Thanks." Swiftflame said, gratefully apologetic. Padding over to her empty nest, Swiftflame washed herself thoroughly, doing her best to dry off her soaked pelt. She then curled up and drifted off to sleep, contemplating the day to come.
[umm yeah not much to stay]

[OOC: Alrightly then, this thread has gotten obnoxiously inactive due to my reletively unsmart post of Swiftflame went to sleep' when she needs to go wake up ashpaw, so, even though it bothers the hell out of me when people do this, I'm gonna double post *bic*]
Swiftflame's eyelids flashed open, the bright light of sunhigh glaring into the green depths underneath. Pushing her paws from beneath her, Swiftflame stretched, muscles knotted from sleeps slowly relaxing as they extended. Sitting neatly, Swiftflame gave her pelt a quick wash to remove any dust it may have picked up during her light sleep, before padding contently out into the cold winter air. It was chilly, but the bright sun above would make it comfortable enough for cats to stay comfortable enough. We've picked a perfect day to fix up the elder's den![/color] Swiftflame thought happily. Suddenly wide awake, the orange she-cat trotted briskly to the apprentices den and poked her head in. "Aaashpaaaw!" Swiftflame sang, feeling as playful as a kit. "Come on, lazypaws, we don't have all day![/b]

Ashpaw had been dreaming of a moonlit path that flowed beside a river. She kept walking along the , but nothing changed. It just went on and on until Ashpaw could have sworn that the river never ended. At last she thought she heard a muffled voice over the sound of the river. In that instant her eyes shot open to reveal that she was again in the waking world, and that Swiftflame was calling her name.
She lazily blinked the sleep from her eyes and lifted her head. "Give me a minuter," she grumbled, the fact that she had just woken up evident in her voice. She slowly brought herself to her paws and shook a few linger strands of moss from her pelt. "Okay, I'm ready. How do we start?" She stifled a yawn as she slowly padded out from her den and into the heart of camp where the rest of the clan was beginning to stir. Looking at the elders dne it did look as if it needed some serious revamping, and Ashpaw braced herself for the long day she had ahead of her.

Satisfied by the sound of the apprentice gradually rousing herself, Swiftflame padded over to the sparse elder's den and peered inside. Calling inside to all of the elders, Swiftflame announced, "Okay, everyone. It's a bit early but I need all of you out of this den for the day. Ashpaw and I are going to fix it up so it'll be better insulated for winter."[/b] In case of any lingering complainers, Swiftflame quickly retreated from the shelter and returned to the apprentice's den, hoping to find Ashpaw wide awake.
[OOC: crappy post, I'm tired.]

Longwhisker grumbled something about bossy warriors and loosing sleep as she tiredly padded out of the elders' den. Of course she couldn't really complain, the den needed fixing and Ashpaw and Swiftflame were going to do it. But if you ever try telling Longwhisker she can't complain, you'll start a the beginning a great rant. "You can't let us get any rest, can you?" By the time she had finished Swiftflame had already got away. Figures, the warrior didn't want an earful of elders who didn't get enough sleep.
Ashpaw, meanwhile, had pulled herself out of the apprentices den and was ready to work. "What will we need?" she asked herself, as she waited for Swiftflame to return. When she sad Swiftflame padding back towad her she ran up to the warrior, "So, how do we get started?"

So, what will we need?
Swiftflame formed a picture in her mind of the current elder's den, greatly lacking insulation and cover, and compared it to a reasonable vision of a competent one. By the looks of it, they would need some more brambles to patch up the walls, with plenty of leaves still attatched. For this they couldn't use old ones that were stocked in camp, so they'd have to venture into the forest for that. Closer to camp, Swiftflame reasoned, they'd need a good deal of the moss outside of Arcticpool and Ripplepaw's den to better insulate the already leafy walls. They could also bring some to cover part of the entrance and line the inner walls. Those were the basics, and of course, if they really wanted to do a stellar job they could bring in some wool from the moor. Swiftflame would have to see how well Ashpaw was holding up by the time they got that far. The warmth of gratitude once again welled within her as she thought of the commitment the apprentice was making. I'll definitely mention this to Darksong, and, when he doesn't care, I'll tell Moonwhisker as well. She's going to make a fine warrior. Swiftflame suddenly realized that she'd been keeping Ashpaw waiting, and quickly told her the summary of what they'd need, adding, "Oh, and Ashpaw, I just have to say again, thank you so much for doing this. It means the world to the elders, even if they don't show it." Swiftflame then laughed, and added, "I hope you're this nice to me when "I'm a grumpy old elder! Now, let's start with fetching that bramble from the forest."

Ashpaw was just glad that she wouldn't have to do any battle training. She hated fighting, not only was she horrible at it, but she didn't think it accomplished much. Plus, Darksong never seemed very pleased to be training her. Though fixing up the elders' den was not exactly the most exciting task on the planet, it definately beat battle training. So Ashpaw simply nodded her head at Swiftflame's thanks, and chuckled at her joke.
"Okay, I guess we should get started." She looked up at Swiftflame, waiting for her approval before dashing off into the forest in search of brambles to repair the den. She tried to think of especially good places for finding brambles, but at last just decided to go out and look, because she did not have a good memory for those types of things.

Swiftflame trotted quickly after Ashpaw, tail twitching with livelyness. This was perhaps the most boring job she could think of, but it just felt great to be alive today. The sun was shining, weakly defying the chill of leaf-bare, and somewhere in the trees a bird was chirping. Inner-warmth seeming to visibly melt the snow before her, Swiftflame called to the apprentice in front of her, "I think there's some brambles by the big oak tree with lots of branches." [OOC:Umm yeah just go with it xD] Ears pricked and alert, Swiftflame continue to bound playfully after the apprentice.
[OOC: Ashpaw's not going to be an apprentice anymore! What're we gonna do with this thread?]

Ashpaw nodded enthusiastically, eyes shining just as bright as ever despite the slight chill in the air. The cold air didn't bother her much under her think, dark pelt. She pricked her ears when Swiftflame told her where to find brambles. She probably could've figured it out herself now that she thought about it, but it wasn't a big deal. Big oak tree with branches, got it. The silent confirmation in her head kept her from forgetting the location. "Well then, I guess I should go get some, shouldn't I?" She didn't wait for confirmation before turning on her paws and padding swiftly off into the forest at a steady trot. It didn't take long for her pelt to disappear into the forest in search of brambles.
[OOC: Okay, I don't feel like making another thread, so Swiftflame can do something, and then I'll just have Ashy Paws come back. <- Ashy Paws, I wish I would've thought of that before. It's kind of fun to say. =)]

"Alright then!" Swiftflame called, chuckling, after the apprentice. What she wouldn't give to be that young and carefree again... Jumping up, Swiftflame trotted, bouncing slightly higher than needed with each step, to the other end of camp where a deposit of mud lay, created by the slightly melted snow. Picking up a large branch, Swiftflame did her best to scoop up as much of it as she could and brought it back towards the elder's den. This should be good to put between the brambles to insulate it... Swiftflame thought as she dragged the heavy branch.
[OOC: Ashy Paws come back ah needs you!]

In just a few minutes Ashpaw was back with as many brambles as she could carry. "You were right Swiftflame, there were a bunch." She set them down carefully on the ground next to the elders' den. "Should I get more, or do you think that will be enough?" Ashpaw wasn't sure why she even bothered asking. The brambles in front of her where nowhere near enough to insulate the entire den. It would definitly take a few more trips, and probably all day. Maybe longer. She suddenly realized the enormity of the task she had taken on, but that did not sway her determination. After all, the elders needed a better den.
[OOC: Yeah... crappy post =p]

[OOC: HEY I posted for this like three days ago! It didn't work! No fair much!]
Glancing down at their meager supply of both brambles and mud, Swiftflame realized for the first time the enormity of what she had volunteered them to do. With a heaving sigh, Swiftflame took charge, analyzing the situation with an expert eye. [OOC:Always wanted to say that xD] "Well, we will definitely will need more, as I'm sure you know, but let's start with what we have and work from there. Anyway, I think we probably should have started by clearing out what's there now. We'll need to take all of that down. Padding over to where the dilapidated old den stood, Swiftflame began tugging the sparse old brambles from where they stood, signaling with her fiery tail for Ash[paw/cloud?] to do the same. [OOC:Okay, something interesting needs to happen or I will explode. I don't care if you have to bring flying monkeys into the camp, just make something happen! xD Sorry, no time to do it myself leaving for vacation in a min.]

Ashpaw nodded, not sure she really wanted to go out into the forest ten more times to get brambles, but it was for the elders, and so she would if she had to. Even so, she was relieved to hear Swiftflame to suggest that she help out in camp first. Silently Ashpaw got to work beside Swiftflame, tugging apart the old brambles and branches that made up the elders' den. She was about to suggest the the use some of these materials on the new den instead of getting all new materials, but then a though came to her. "Oh my gosh," at first her voice was hardly more than a whisper, but then she turned to Swiftflame, "Look at this Swiftflame." She prodded a shiny piece of metal that had been stuck in the brambles of the den. The reflection of the light from it was almost blinding. "What do you think it is?"
[ooc; Shiny metal. There's my excitement. =p]

Swiftflame bounded up, concern in her eyes. Foreign objexts were never good. As she watched Ashcloud/paw's paw dart out, she yowled, "No, don't touch that, we have no idea what it is!" Swiftflame finished the distance between herself and the apprentice/warrior in one swift leap. "Now, let me see that! But when Swiftflame saw the metal glinting in the sunlight, she couldn't help herself. It was just so pretty. Her paw drifted, almost unwillingly, forward, and as it scraped against the sharp, colorful edge she felt it slice into he pad. "Ow!" Swiftflame sat down immediately and began licking her stinging pad. It wasn't bad at all, but how had that beautiful thing cut her so easily? She had barely touched it! "oops. I shouldn't have done thast, but it was just so pretty!" Even as she spoke, Swiftflame could tell how stupid she sounded.
AND THEN A GIANT MONKEY JUMPED OUT OF NOWHERE - just kidding.

Ashpaw watched the encounter of Swiftflame and the shiny metal curiously, wondering why Swiftflame had touched right after she had finished telling Ashpaw not to touch it. As soon as Ashpaw saw the cut on Swiftflame's pad she jumped to alertness. "What is it? Why did it do that? Should I go get Ripplepaw?" The questions shot out of her faster than they could be answered, but she seriously had no clue what had just happened. Swiftflame touched the metal, and next thing she knew her pad was bleeding. Ashpaw led her nose closer to the mysterious shining metal and sniffed cautiously. The scent was strange and sharp, and Ashpaw did not recognize it. She reached out her paw to touch it and then brought it back, remembering the cut it had left on Swiftflame's pad. "We should get it out of camp." she concluded. So maybe that was pretty obvious, but Ashpaw wasn't exactly the most brilliant cat in the clan. She tried to search the surface of the metal with her eyes, looking for any hints as to what it was, but it was just a shiny piece of metal as far as she could tell.
