Aviansun
[piccie]
"There's a place so dark you can't see the end
Skies thingy back and shock that which can't defend
The rain then sends dripping/Acidic question
Forcefully, the power of suggestion
Then with the eyes shut/Looking through the rust and rot and dust
A small spot of light floods the floor
And pours over the rusted world of pretend
And the eyes ease open and it's dark again"

Appearance
Build. Aviansun is a large, muscular tom; he is somewhat blocky in build, and has small, rounded ears and a long, slightly fluffy tail.
Fur. His fur is a pale gold in color, with spots and stripes of black; similar to a leopard's, but with spots rather than rosettes. It's thick, and sparkles a little in the right light.
Eyes. Dark, deep brown.
Other. Avi's part bengal -- that's what his looks are modeled on.
Personality.Aviansun is a solitary cat; dark and somewhat mysterious, he makes friends only as it suits him, keeps his tongue between his teeth, and rarely tells the whole of his story. It's gained him a reputation as being hard-to-get and more than a little bit of an enigma -- no cat knows his secrets. This behavior also causes whispers about the trustworthiness of the tom, and exactly why he has such a strong desire for privacy -- but he's careful to keep cats' trust, as well, and so these rumors die out quickly. When he wants to, this tom can be charming and influential; however, he rarely bothers, taking a strange sort of enjoyment from his mysterious reputation.
Hobbies and talents. Aviansun is a talented warrior -- well-muscled and strong, he relies on power over speed, and is a fantastic fighter -- and has a sweet tongue when he wills it. The combination of these qualities have resulted in his status as a respected warrior when he's still a fairly young cat. He is extremely self-controlled and good at hiding his true opinions; in a nutshell, he's manipulative and loves power. And water. He likes to swim.
Faults and dislikes. Behind the mask, Aviansun is possessed by cold-hearted ambition. He's the sort of cat who would kill in cold blood, change sides mid-battle, or backstab a friend if it meant he would rise up in the world. He has no conscience whatsoever; if there's a frozen heart beating there somewhere, nocat's ever found it. Unfortunately for the cats he takes advantage of, he's very good at hiding the dark cat inside of him. Has an absolute terror of heights.

"You're sick of feeling numb --
You're not the only one.
I'll take you by the hand
And I'll show you a world that you can understand..."
"Snakefang?"
Hesitation in the tom's eyes, a falter in his step. True falter, no game tonight. Her eyes dark with sorrow.
"Snakefang, what's -- wrong?"
"Go away, crowbait." That same sorrow, laid bare in her voice as never before. "I'm too tired to play tonight. I'm sick of the games -- the manipulation -- the d**n struggle to survive! I'm not in the mood, all right?"
Ah. That was all. A flash of satisfaction in her rival's eye, and the hesitation vanished. "Poor baby. The world just doesn't stop turning, does it?"
"Shut the hell up, Flashfur, and get out of my face."
"No, listen to me." Four swift steps to her side; face expressionless, eyes cold. "Sitting here crying about how cruel life is doesn't help you any. There's nothing else out there, so either quit sniveling and suck it up -- or give it up. I can help you with either."
Dark green eyes narrowed at him. "Are you suggesting something?"
"An alliance. Tell me you love me, kitten -- if we can't stop the games, we might as well get something out of them."
A long silence.
"All right. I'll do it. I love you, Flashfur."
"And I you, kitten. Let's see what we can make of this."
"There's truth in your lies
Doubt in your faith
What you build you lay to waste
There's truth in your lies
Doubt in your faith
All I've got's what you didn't take..."
Pressed up against her in daylight, nose buried in the sweet scent of her fur. Staring at her from across the warrior den as, after that first night, each of them slept alone.
Wondering.
She loves me true, she loves me not at all...
Pick the petals off the daisy; she won't tell.
Wheels turn and time moves on. She moves out to the nursery. Continuing with the sickly-sweet play in public, using it to their every advantage; silent as the grave when alone, unwilling to speak what each may perhaps think. Feeling strange affection for the unborn kits.
Wondering --
She loves me true?
A scream in the night; her grey pelt curled protectively around two small shapes.
So small -- one so silent.
The anguish in her eyes masking the same affection she felt.
"You killed him, Flashfur. You killed Waterkit, you and your stupid games."
She loves me not at all.
"'No time for goodbye'
He said as he faded away.
'Don't put your life in someone's hands
They're bound to take it away.
Don't hide your mistakes
'Cause they'll find you, burn you...'"
Having to live through every day with him at her side; the little copy of the tom she hated so much. Having to pretend-love him, with her blood in his veins -- so much worse than his father, because he thought it was real. Worse; having to teach him how to stay alive.
Still -- there were lessons she enjoyed; unofficial ones, political ones. Avianpaw was an apt pupil, a clever tom.
And a good spy.
"Av'npaw." Her breath soft on his ear. "Why don't you go...watch Daddy for a little bit? I'd like to know what he's doing."
His grin, already dark with adult knowledge. "Yes, Mama. I'll be back soon."
"I love you, kitten."
"And I you, Mama."
The world is a dark one, bleak with flat reality. He knew that by five moons of age. And he thrived in it.
Learning everything from Mama; not just how to do, but how to look as though you do. How to smile and pretend, to twist cats around the tip of your tail with a look.
Daddy was his favorite target.
Parents often come to hate each other as their kits grow up; this was another black truth he had learned at an early age. It was easy to see why. Daddy was evil; Mama had told him so from birth. He had pretended to love her, and she had pretended to love him -- that was okay. Then he had pretended it was real, because he really hated her, and killed his little brother Waterkit on top of it.
And so he twisted Daddy around his tail, made Daddy love him even more than Mama loved him. Daddy believed his every word.
And he reported Daddy's every word to Mama.
"I've become so numb
I can't feel you there
Become so tired
So much more aware
I'm becoming this
All I want to do
Is be more like me
And be less like you..."
Monsters thundering past him, ruffling his fur, roaring in his ears. A tom standing ahead of him, staring dully at the black path. A she-cat beside him, the devil's gleam in her eye.
"Go on." Whisper in his ear. "Do it now."
Padding out of cover. Shock in the older tom's eyes.
"Avi! I didn't know you'd be here..."
"It's Avianpaw, Flashfur. Not Avi."
"What --" Confusion, a little hurt. "Is something wrong, son?"
"Avianpaw. Yes, it is. I wanted to talk to you about someone named Waterkit."
A flash of anger in his eyes. Shift three steps to the side. "Is your mother telling you that same old story again? I didn't do it, Avi."
Voice a snarl. One step forward; he backs off. "I said, call me Avianpaw! Yes, Flashfur, she is telling me that 'same old story'. I just wanted to say that I've always felt bad for the little kitten."
First cue; be ready.
"You've never heard my side of the story, have you, Avianpaw? Your queen is a liar!" That hurt is real; he can hear it dragging on his heartstrings. "Your brother died because of an accident, Avianpaw, or -- or maybe it was fate. I sure as StarClan didn't kill him!"
"Sure as StarClan. How true." A sneer; but accompanied by a step back, this step not planned. "I don't believe you."
"It's true! Avianpaw -- listen to me! You mother hates me, true, hates me with all her being -- but it's not because of what she says." Bitterness in his voice now. "She hates me, Avianpaw, because she sees in me everything evil in herself -- and for that same reason, she hates you."
A blow to the heart for both of them and she leapt out of the bush --
Snarl on her face and bare pain in her voice --
"d**n you, Flashfur, I'll kill you for your poison --"
This wasn't in the plan -- but it would work. It would work. Last sight of his father, a golden pelt falling in the coming monster's path --
Then turning -- crying out the second cue late -- crying out his heart for the first time and the last.
"I don't love you anymore!"
Running back to camp, blinded by tears. Stopping, breathing hard -- control, control -- the only thing that matters anymore.
All cats are evil at heart; it is an undeniable truth. There's no point to making good out of evil -- so one might as well twist the best life they can out of it.
Running to Patchstar, innocent fear easy to read on his face. Turning the same tricks on his mother he had on his father.
And she was exiled -- and he was alone.
He was called Aviansun, and Aviansun he would be. Aviansun -- not either of those stupid names. Nicknames were a form of endearment -- a symbol of lies.
Alone he was -- but with a title, and respect, which were all he could ever glean from this world.
