Ashpaw emerged from the apprentice den after a short mid day nap. Her fur still seemed to stand on end from the excitement of the day. She had been made an apprentice! No more feeling like a useless kit. Her heart still pounded but she forced herself to relax and sit down. She could not act like an excited kit anymore, she had to be somewhat mature. She took a deep breath and forced her fur to lie flat. She sat down and looked cautiously around to see who else was in camp.

Darksong sat lazily outside the Warriors' den. His mind was cycling through things he should do today. Nothing was coming up. Then it came to him, Oh yeah, I have an apprentice that I'm suppose to be mentoring. It was a really strange thought to him, considering he had never had an apprentice before.
He then padded over to the river that flowed through the center of camp. He grunted at the thought of getting wet. He crossed it using some stepping stones. Then, he spotted Ashpaw just outside the apprentice den.
Darksong padded up to her, quickly thinking of what to say.
"So....have anything particular in mind for your first day as an apprentice?" Darksong asked.

Ashpaw jumped up half from excitement, half from nervousness. She had dreamed of this day since she was a tiny kit and knew exactly what she wanted to do, but she pretended to think about it anyway not wanting it to appear that she was over-eager. "I would like to go hunting!" she exclaimed at last. Ashpaw had always dreamed of the first piece of fresh prey she would get to sink her teeth into. She could hardly believe it was finally happening. She looked up at her mentor with her blue eyes, struggling to keep her body still.

Darksong wasn't nearly as enthusiastic as Ashpaw about going hunting. He found it....boring to say the least. It was just one of those things he had to do. "Alright then, follow me." He told Ashpaw, then began heading out of camp.
