Hmm...it was warm in the warrior den. Nice and warm. It must be cold outside, because cats like her, the younger warriors, the ones near to the entrance, they had their noses tucked in their tails and were shoved all close together. It was spring, so it would be warmer, but days like this were good for pretending to miss dawn and sleeping in...
Oh wait. She couldn't do that!
Silverdust stifled a loud squeak and jumped to her paws, bouncing on somecat's tail. There'd been a ceremony last night, she had a new apprentice! It was morning now, right? Or close enough? Was she allowed to go in the apprentice den and wake cats up? she wondered, nimbly dodging the irritated nip of the cat she'd stepped on.
Luckily for cats in the apprentice den, it was morning, late enough to be up -- and late enough that Silverdust was probably one of the last mentors out. Maybe Rainpaw would be waiting for her! Silverdust scanned the camp, hunting for a patch of grey-white fur.

[OOC:aaah sorry latee!] Rainpaw yawned. Her eyes remained closed tight, resisting the warm glare of sunlight that was assaulting her lids. Then, abruptly, she remembered who and where she was. Oh my Starclan I overslept!!! Rainpaw leapt to her paws, only to stumble over her sleep-clumsy limbs. And thus she tripped uncoordinatedly out into the sunlight in her frantic attempts to regain balance and not knock anyone or anything over in the process. Blinking rapidly to expel the sleep from her eyes, Rainpaw found herself face to face with her mentor, Silverdust. "Oh! Silverdust I'm so sorry I overslept I really didn't mean to! Rainpaw looked at her paws, slightly ashamed of herself for making this bad first impression. The newly named apprentice was also stomach-wrenchingly nervous. She didn't really know how she was supposed to treat her mentor, or how to address her, or how many questions she was allowed to ask...oh, Rainpaw was just bursting with questions, and she felt like she was going to explode if she didn't ask them all at once. However, instead she lashed her tail from side to side, trying to get rid of her nerves, anticipating her first day of training.[/blockquote]

Purplepaw awoke when he heard Rainpaw stumble to her paws. His first night in the apprentice den was quite sleepless. He felt like a baby for thinking so, but he missed sleeping in the nursery with his mother. Heck, he missed everything about his mother.
He figured Rippedheart would have some sort of training planned for the day, so Purplepaw padded out of the den. He yawned as he walked, bumping into Rainpaw's flank. "...sorry." He mumbled, still not awake yet.
"Have you guys seen Rippedheart yet?" He asked, glancing around camp for his mentor.

Rippedheart moaned in pain as some cat used his tail as a stepping stone. He moved it quickly, and opened one yellow-orange eye to catch a glimpse of silver fur. It'd been Silverdust. His heart gave an involuntary flutter. Ok, so maybe he'd developed a cute little school-boy crust on one of his best friends sense childhood. He smiled and closed his eyes again.
Then a thought occurred to him. Today was Purplepaw's first day of training. Crap. He jumped up quickly, giving his fur a quick lick he hurried out of the warrior's den to see that Silverdust, Rainpaw, and Purplepaw were all waiting for him.
"Hey guys, sorry I'm late. We should get started," he meowed, giving everyone a hello.

"Rainpaw!"
Silverdust sprang for her apprentice the instant the younger cat stumbled out of her den. The new mentor had only been looking around for moments and, odds were, didn't even realize the she-cat had just woken up.
"RAINPAWTHEREYOUAREIKNOWIT'SLATEBUTIWANTEDTOLETYOUWAK--uh?" Silv was mid-sentence before she realized Rainpaw had spoken. "Oh you think you're late? Well that's okay then. I was gonna give you time anyway."
She tilted her head at the other apprentice as he walked straight into the middle of them without even realizing it. "Hiya, uh, um, Purplepaw. I dunno --" Glancing around, she spotted her old friend walking toward them. "There he is! Rippy, over here!"
She was bouncing a little as the tom came over and made his greetings; it was hard to say why. Probably excitement for the first day of training. "Hey guys, sorry I'm late. We should get started."
"Yeah, we should," the she-cat responded, suddenly a little more serious. She turned around to squint at the sky, checking how late it really was. "Come with us, Rip, it'll be easier together. What were you planning on doing today?"

Rainpaw giggled helplessly as her mentor jumped about 12 tail-lengths ahead of herself speed talking at her. Silverdust might be a warrior on the outside, but on the inside Rainpaw was pretty sure she'd never really left the nursery. Rainpaw rolled her eyes slightly at her mentor's immaturity. Even she wasn't as hyper as that. [OOC: some mentor respect issues with Rainpaw?] Suddenly she wasn't so nervous anymore. Without a second glance towards her mentor or Rippedheart, Rainpaw turned to Purplepaw to start a conversation while the older cats talked: "What do you think we're gonna do today? I barely slept last night but I'm still really awake." Suppressing the urge to bounce around like an excited kit, Rainkit swiveled around to face the fresh kill pile. An unusually plump vole was sitting there, just begging to be taken. Figuring Silverdust wouldn't mind, Rainpaw trotted over to snatch it.

Just as Rainpaw reached for the vole, Aquapool snatched it. Her eyes were half closed and she didn't notice Rainpaw. Aquapool yawned and drew her eyes open. Turning to Rainpaw, she noticed her eyes were fixed on the vole. "I'm sorry sweetie, were you wanting this?" Aquapool set it down in front of Rainpaw, picked up a thrush and sluggishly padded away.

"Good morning, Rippedheart!" Purplepaw greeted his mentor, trying really hard not to jump up and down with excitement. He couldn't wait to train, but feared what it might entail. Hopefully, he wouldn't dirty his pelt too much. Purplepaw hated having a dirty pelt.
For a moment, Purplepaw couldn't take his dark eyes off Rippedheart. There was something about the older tom that he really liked, but didn't understand what it is. Perhaps it was that their personalities were similar, but the young apprentice couldn't be sure.
Purplepaw was so preoccupied admiring his mentor that Rainpaw was lucky he heard her speak, "....I don't know. I didn't sleep much either." He mumbled to satisfy her.

He nodded at Silverdust, "Alright, that'll be fun then," he agreed, pausing for a minute before continuing, "Well today I was thinking about showing Purplepaw the territory, because I think that's the most important thing he should know right now." He shrugged his shoulders, feeling a bit nervous about training with Silverdust. He had this insane need to impress her, and he didn't know why.
He was suddenly greeted by a overly-happy apprentice. His overly-happy apprentice. "Hello Purplepaw, ready to train?"

Silverdust nodded cheerfully. "Okay, let's do that then." She'd come closer to Rippedheart, speaking in a -- relatively -- quiet voice to make it seem to the apprentices like they were conferencing very seriously; now she spun around to speak to her apprentice, very nearly whipping Rippedheart in the nose with her tail.
"Rainpaw!" Realizing the she-cat had moved from the spot she'd taken when her mentor last looked in that direction, Silverdust had to hunt a little till she spotted Rainpaw by the freshkill pile with a vole. Not noticing Aquapool, who was already padding away, she called, "Oh, good, I almost forgot you'd have to eat. We're gonna train with Rippedheart and Purplepaw today, okay? We'll start off looking around the territory."
She wondered if she ought to add something enlightening and original on the end of that, but nothing came to mind so she turned back to Rippedheart. "Sooo um yeah. Sands and forest and all that." She paused, but still nothing magically amazing and training-related popped into her mind. "You go first."

"Oh, good, I almost forgot you'd have to eat. We're gonna train with Rippedheart and Purplepaw today, okay? We'll start off looking around the territory." Rainpaw sat down in the swirling dust beside the fresh-kill pile, figuring that her crazy mentor wouldn't mind waiting a couple moments for her to enjoy a good breakfast before her first long day of training. However, the though of training brought back the familiar knot of nervousness coiled deep in the pit of Rainpaw's stomach, filling up any space where food might have gone. Suddenly too nervous to even think of eating, Rainpaw pushed her plump fresh-kill away from her, not really sure what to do with it but definitely not able to stomach it around her nerves. Figuring someone wouldn't mind a bite missing, the immature Rainpaw tossed it back in the general direction of the fresh-kill pile before racing forward. The paws on her too-short legs drummed a spastic rhythm in the ground as she raced to catch up with the rest of her training group near the camp entrance. For a moment Rainpaw's ADD mind sent her a frightening thought - what if they'd already left without her? Rainpaw had been a while, and what if they hadn't wanted to wait for one lone apprentice? Racing even faster, Rainpaw rounded a corner [OOC: yeah, there's corners in camp] right smack into Silverdust. Wow, Rainpaw was really getting into the habit of running into things. Scrambling backwards, Rainpaw ubled a quick apology to her mentor before padding, relieved, over to sit with the other apprentices, truly ready for her day of training to start.[/blockquote]

"Of course I'm ready, Rippedheart!" Purplepaw squeaked, "I already know some of the territory." He bragged a bit. He watched Rainpaw meddle about at the freshkill pile, taking a bite out of a vole and putting it back. Shaking his head at the 'younger' apprentice, he watched her then run frantically over to him, Rippedheart, and Silverdust.
Even though there was barely a moon difference between him and Rainpaw, he felt as though he was much more mature than her. Sure, they were apprenticed at the same time, but Purplepaw was still older. He promised himself he would do better than her today, proving his superiority.

Rippedheart nodded to Silverdust and smiled. He was happy to be training with her. He raised his eyebrows at Purplepaw's comment. "Oh so you've been out of the territory before you were an apprentice?" he joked happily. He didn't really care. It wasn't like he hadn't.
He burst out laughing at the memory. He'd only been a few moons old when he, Rainclaw, Silverdust, and Rissingdawn had all gone out of camp. No one even knew about it to this day.
"Ok, so why don't we check out some of the territory first. We can start with the twoleg place and work our way around?" he suggested, looking over at Silverdust.

Silverdust listened with half an ear to the conversation between Purplepaw and Rippedheart. Her head tilted as she watched her old friend suddenly burst out laughing, and she stared at him a moment before -- in a complete, perfect example of laugh-after-it's-not-funny-anymore delayed reaction -- finally realizing what Rip was remembering and giggling very loudly.
Then Rainpaw ran into her and she fell over.
Well, she didn't fall over, really, but she sort of got knocked sideways into Rippy. She oofed and righted herself as Rainpaw raced into the right spot, then shook her head to make sure everything was working, and turned back to the issue at hand as if things like this happened every day. (Well, they did, but it was usually her fault.)
"All right," she answered Rippedheart's suggestion, and, completely usurping his minimal charge of the situation, trotted off in the direction of Twolegplace.
