Darksong paced anxiously near the entrance to the nursery in the Medicine Cat den. Rainclaw was kitting, so of course he was very nervous. That was only a small piece of the emotions rushing through the ebony tom though.
The fear of being like his father still clawed at his mind. There was no way Darksong wanted his kits to feel the way he did growing up. He was constantly yelled at and always told he'd never amount to anything.
Then he recalled the reason Tornspirit was so moody. Darksong's mother had died in kitting. The ebony tom tensed up just thinking about that possibility. He eased himself by remembering that Pantherheart probably died because she was far too young to have kits.
Darksong also wondered what his kits would be like. Well, considering family history they would most likely have bad attitudes. Then again, there were some oddballs. Hopefully none of the kits would be like Rippedheart, pansy-ish and week. Speaking of brothers, a kit with a personality like the dunderhead Mothflight would be terrible as well.
The ebony pushed all of these worries out of his mind. He scolded himself for thinking too much and being so irrational. Darksong was sure everything would be fine.....right?

Of course Dewpaw knew what was happening. To make it simple, Dewpaw made sure she knew every bit of gossip inside and outside the camp. But this was obvious, there was no way a cat like Darksong would be nervously pacing in front of the nursery on any normal day.
Rainclaw was having the little devils.
And devils they would be. It seemed as though the entire camp, especially Paintedpaw, Purplepaw, Rainpaw, and Maskpaw. To them these kits would be like a little Darksongs or Rainclaws. Oh god.
But Dewpaw wasn't that worried, she figured the couldn't be that bad. Because who was she to judge?
She walked (on three paws as usual) over to the big black cat. "Hey Darksong. Don't worry about her. She'll be ok," Dewpaw commented, sitting down between him and the nursery entrance.

Darksong sat down and shot an odd glance at the young she-cat who was attempting to comfort him. He supposed that he appreciated the gesture, but felt horribly awkward and had no idea how to respond. "Err....thanks." He then fidgeted a bit in his spot. His nervousness made it hard for him to stay still.

"You're welcome," Dewpaw replied happily. Her big fluffy tail brushed on the ground. She could understand his nervousness and she realized that he probaly wanted her to leave him alone but she wasn't going to budge.
She wanted to be the first out of the other apprentices to see the new kits. She wanted to see if they were going to be mini Darksongs and Rainclaws.
"It shouldn't be long now," Dewpaw said, smiling.

Darksong continued his confused and awkward looks towards Dewpaw. What was she even doing here? Didn't she have training to do? Nothing better to do then bug anxious Darksong, who'd rather be left alone? He thought about asking her, but decided he wouldn't be mean to her.
"Umm.....yeah."
The constant happiness of the apprentice irked him too. Maybe that was just an apprentice thing, being bouncy and happy all the time. Darksong could never recall behaving in such a matter himself.
He then felt the need to pry a bit about why she had nothing better to do then pester him with her happiness, "You aren't training or anything today....?"

"Training? I already did. I was on the early patrol so Silverstripe gave me a break, then I saw you and I figured Rainclaw was giving birth so I came over to say hi," she meowed at one word per second.
She shuffled her feet nervously. "This is really exciting isn't it? Well see I sorta lied before, I really wanna see the kits before the other apprentices see them," she didn't say why though. She wasn't stupid. She wanted to see how evil they were. Or maybe they wouldn't be evil at all. You never know!

Dewpaw had spoken so fast Darksong barely understood it. Then again, he wasn't trying that hard to. His amber gaze kept glancing in the direction of the nursery entrance and his ears were completely alert.
He had caught that she said something about her mentor giving her a break, then something about saying hi. The ebony tom simply nodded in response showing that he understood what she was saying. He actually wasn't processing much of anything she said.
Then she spoke about wanting to see the kits before the other apprentices. Darksong recalled all of the competing that went on when he was an apprentice. He ignored a lot of it and instead had spent a lot of his time either with Tornspirit or Spiritpaw, of course when they were around. He thought about mentioning that to Dewpaw, but thought better of it.
"Oh, I see..." He mumbled, feeling that he should give her some sort of response.

Dewpaw smiled sweetly. "Yeah oh my StarClan! I totally forgot, did you know that Gingerpaw says that..." she meowed and once again took off into another talking spree.
Meanwhile, you could finally hear two tiny meows coming from the nursery. Rainclaw had finally delivered her kits. She sighed, exhausted. There were two, one with Darksong's black spots and another that looked like a carbon copy of Rippedheart. She smiled to herself, he would enjoy that.
She smiled even more as then took their first breaths of life, "Come here my darlings," she cooed. The medicine cat smiled and meowed, "Now lick backwards please!" she meowed, passing over the black and white kit to Rainclaw. She obeyed without question. While the medicine cat did the same to the other kit. After a few minutes Rainclaw stopped and spoke again, "I want Darksong."
The medicine cat poked her head of of the den, "Darksong, want to see your kits?" she asked.
Dewpaw stopped talking mid-sentence. YES. Now all she had to do was wait.

Dawnflight was putting on a great show of being overjoyed. Of course, the kits were a blessing to the clan no matter where they came from, but now its was going to be Rainclaw, Rainclaw, Rainclaw, 24/7. No doubt raising those kits to be just like her. Dawnflight knew she was being a bit unfair, but she couldn't help feeling just a bit protective over those tiny knew scraps of life. She didn't want them to turn out like their parents. Maybe, if Dawnflight became closer with Rainclaw, she'd have a stronger influence over those adorable little kits. So, gathering around the exhausted new queen, Dawnflight cooed at the kits like all the rest and said warmly, "Oh, Rainclaw, they're beautiful. This one here looks just like Rippedheart! Do you know what you'll be naming them yet?" There. Dawnflight was certain she couldn't have put on a better show than that, not when she would like nothing more than to be away from the queen. No doubt Dawnflight was in store for a scathing response of some kind.[/blockquote]

Darksong quickly padded into the nursery when he was called, glancing back at Dewpaw as if to say don't you dare follow me! Then when he entered he saw Dawnflight was hovering about cooing silly things. He just wished everyone would go away. They annoyed him horridly.
He touched noses with Rainclaw and sat down next to her, his pelt touching hers. He felt as though he was in a dream. Looking at his two kits brought a smirk to his face. 'Course one looked just like Rippedheart as Dawnflight had commented. The other one was black and had white in the same places that Tornspirit did.

Dewpaw smiled happily and ignored Darksong's glare. She would sneak a peak later, no big deal. It wasn't like she couldn't wait a few more minutes instead of risking getting her head bitten off by Rainclaw. Or one of the kits for that matter.
Rainclaw buried her head in Darksong's fur. She was happy he was here. She shuffled her kits close to her. "Yeah," she meowed, not paying attention to Dawnflight. "I think he should be named Arrowkit," she meowed. She'd always loved the name. She looked at Darksong for ideas for the other kit. She wanted them to decide together.

Dawnflight was quite confuzzled. She had done her best to be kind and inviting, and yet Rainclaw had completely ignored her. Well, it beats having my ears clawed off... Dawnflight padded off to the other side of the nursery, incase Rainclaw decided to suddenly lunge for her throat, already forming a resolve to return to her mission at a later time. [exit Dawnflight for now]

Darksong licked at Rainclaw's pelt as she spoke, responding to her name suggestion with, "Sure." She looked to him for the name of the black kit. At first, it was a bit scary to see a kit in the spitting image of Tornspirit, but it suddenly ceased to bother him.
"Greenkit." Darksong said simply, licking the black kit's pelt gently. He wasn't sure if Rainclaw knew the beginning of his father's name used to be Green, but opted not to mention it.

"Greenkit and Arrowkit," she meowed happily. For once her voice was pure happiness, and nothing could spoil this for her. She hugged her kits closer and tiredly sighed, falling asleep.
[xD nothing else was really gonna happen.]
