Boneshatter. Aquapool in trouble!

Aquapool pelted through the forest in hot pursuit of a squirrel. It bolted up the tree, and she dug her claws into the tree and climbed after it. She spotted the squirrel a branch above her. There you are! She whispered. Readying herself, she crouched. Then Jumped. Aquapool caught the squirrel but missed her landing. Plummeting down, she yowled. At the instant she was a fox length away from the ground, something caught her. The experience shocked her. Eyes closed, and she fell into unconsiousness.

Aquapools eyes flickered open. She saw a huge black and white tom standing over her. "Did you save me?" She asked, wearily. The tom nodded. "I am Boneshatter." He smelled of rogue and kitty-pet. "Where have you come from?" He asked her. "IvoryClan." She answered. Jumping up, she growled. "Just because I am a she-cat, doesn't mean I am weak!" And with that, she pelted back towards the forest. The tom was hot on her tail. "Help me!" She yowled.

Aquapool took a sharp turn to the left and lost him. But only for a moment. As she panted, the tom pounced and pinned her to the forest floor. "Wait, I don't wish to harm you!" he panted. Aquapool slashed at his nose. Drawing back, he released her and she got up, hissing and growling feircely at him. Her fur was all fluffed up, which made her seem huge.

"You ungrateful little she-cat!" He spat. Turning, she darted away. Boneshatter chased after her. Why is she running...am I really all that scary? He asked himself. "Wait!" He called out to her. "I idn't mean to frighten you!" Aquapool skidded to a halt and turned to him. "Then why were you chasing me?" She questioned.

Risingdawn needed some time alone.

He'd been so sure that this was what he wanted...that Patchstar needed to die. But now...the Clan was in chaos, fights were springing up right and left, and Silverdust was refusing to speak to him. And it felt so strange, to have been one of the ones who wanted this...

So he'd felt an urge to get out, to think alone for awhile. It was strange to realize how long it had been since he'd come out into the forest without another cat, without Silv or Snowsong...too long, since before the Goldensun incident. He'd used to love time alone. But then he realized he was always going to be a miserable hunter, and decided to stop using that excuse...

Still, it was the first one that came to mind when Riss wanted to get out of camp for a bit, and he hadn't hesitated to use it. So he was slipping along through the brush, tracking down a rabbit, when he caught the sound of trouble from not-too-far away.

He froze where he was, listening to the snarls and angry words, the crashing through the undergrowth as two cats ran. Definitely trouble. Quickly and silently, the young tom slipped through the forest, hiding as he reached the source of the noise.

A Clanmate, a she-cat, was being chased by a tom Riss didn't recognize. A gust of wind brought a whiff of Twolegs and crowfood -- this was no Clan cat at all. A tom against a she-cat, and on Clan land -- he needed to break into this.

Gathering up a bit of courage, the ginger tom stepped out of the underbrush. "Stop right there!" he called out, glaring through narrowed eyes at the unfamiliar tom. "You there -- you're trespassing on Clan land. We own everything to the east of the Thunderpath here. Get out."

Boneshatter backed away. I did not know this was your land. I am sorry." Aquapool looked at him. "Where have you come from?" She asked. Boneshatter looked from the Riss, then to Aquapool. "I have traveled far an only wish to find someone to rest with. He dipped his head respectfully. "I beg of you, please let me stay. I mean your clan no harm." Aquapool tilted her head and then turned to Riss. "He apologized to me so many times, please, let him stay."

Risingdawn stared at Aquapool, incredulous. "Let him stay?" the ginger tom demanded of the younger warrior. "It's all very well and good that he apologized to you, Aquapool, but be serious. Our Clan is a --" he hesitated, not wanting to downright mention how confused the Clan was in front of a possible enemy "-- you know how our Clan is right now! He's just another source of trouble at the moment. We can't..." Glancing at the unfamiliar cat again, he moved closer to Aquapool and spoke in a lower voice, too quiet for the other cat to hear. "We barely even know who would accept him into the Clan right now, Aquapool. You know it's chaos back there...Patchstar is dead, Darksong is refusing Moonwhisker's leadership, no one's gone to Moonstone yet...and he hasn't even told his name. {riss wasn't there when he did.} You can't seriously want us to just walk by and pretend he was never there, or worse, try and take him to camp?"

Shaking his head, the young warrior backed away from Aquapool and stared at Boneshatter, eyes hard. "I'm going to ask you politely, one more time. Please leave Clan land. There are cats enough in Twolegplace who can help you."

Aquapool whispered. "This is Boneshatter. I know Patchstar has gone, but perhaps he can take the Clans mind off of the loss, so Moonwhisker can journey to the moonstone." He seems like a lovely tom. Maybe we should consider."

"Aquapool, don't you remember me at all? We used to play as kits. You always snuck out of the nursery to meet me at the old shack in the Abandonded Twolegs house." Aquapool's eyes widened. "Of course! But that was long ago Boneshatter, I-" He interrupted her. "I loved you back then Aquapool, and even back then, when we knew nothing about love, I felt a warm feeling inside me when I was around you, but I didn't know what it was. I am getting the feeling now, and this time, I know what it is! It is love, and I want to be with you forever!"Aquapool was taken aback by her old friend's words. "Oh Boneshatter, I love you too, but I cannot love a...." She had trouble calling him a rogue, so she simply said, "Loner." Tears welled in her eyes. "It is against the code but..." She looked hopefully to Riss.

Risingdawn was mystified by Aquapool's sudden determination to get a loner into the Clan. He was about to open his mouth to reply in the negative when the trespasser spoke up again.

"Aquapool, don't you remember me at all? We used to play as kits. You always snuck out of the nursery to meet me at the old shack in the Abandonded Twolegs house."
"Of course! But that was long ago Boneshatter, I-"
"I loved you back then Aquapool, and even back then, when we knew nothing about love, I felt a warm feeling inside me when I was around you, but I didn't know what it was. I am getting the feeling now, and this time, I know what it is! It is love, and I want to be with you forever!"
"Oh Boneshatter, I love you too, but I cannot love a....Loner. It is against the code but..."

Risingdawn knew he probably should have interrupted, but he was too busy staring open-mouthed to say anything. Then he realized Aquapool was staring at him with pleading in her eyes -- as if this matter were in his paws! He suddenly wished very heartily that he had never left camp.

"You, uh...know each other?" he said lamely. Long-lost love? Since when did that still happen, let alone happen so fast? Riss felt a twinge, thinking of Snowsong -- but he honestly couldn't believe what was happening in front of his eyes. His relationship with Snowsong was based on attraction, like circumstances and a little time and work, not...five minutes with someone from kithood. And even if it was his decision, he wouldn't have let some random cat into the Clan on one of the youngest warriors' whims, so what the heck was he supposed to say?

"Look, Aquapool." He spoke directly to her, and her alone; he wasn't entirely certain what he was supposed to do about the 'love' standing right next to the cat. "This isn't a matter of taking the Clan's mind of things, this is a matter of the Clan being in chaos." He wasn't trying to hide the fact from Boneshatter anymore; he gave Aquapool's trust in the loner at least that much credit. "We don't even know that Moonwhisker is going to Moonstone right this moment. The Clan...you know that it's been such a long time since things have been done the old way. Normally the leader names a successor, and it's not necessarily the deputy -- we have Moonwhisker and Darksong arguing, and then Patchstar's two kits have just about as much say as they do. I'm sorry, but this...love of yours just isn't enough for me to tell you to go ahead and bring him to camp."

Not that he could really stop them if they decided to go...even if he was fifteen moons older than Aquapool, Risingdawn wasn't a senior warrior; he didn't have the real rank to pull on her, to keep the rogue away.

Tears were now falling from her eyes. "But we-." Boneshatter swiped his tail over her mouth. He narrowed his eyes sorrowfully. "I am sorry for the loss of your leader. That loner he let in was one of my brothers. I watched one of your warriors slaughter him. But I also watched him slaughter a queen. I wanted to kill him myself for what he did, but I didn't want to cause trouble with anyone, so I stayed back." Boneshatter turned away. "I am sorry, I will leave immediatley." He padded into the forest.

"So that's it!?" Aquapool yowled at Riss. Quickly she turned and headed away towards twoleg place. "You'll never see me again!" She yowled once more.

Risingdawn could only stare as the two cats ran away.

Okay, so. Aquapool was the most emotional she-cat he'd ever met, and Boneshatter was probably off his rocker. (He had a very good idea of who had killed Snowdrift, and was almost positive it couldn't be this Boneshatter's brother; Secret had been an old tom, somehow related to his friend's mate, Darksong.) The two of them probably deserved each other.

But still...Risingdawn sighed. He knew he really, really shouldn't let a crazy -- lovesick? -- Clanmate run off in the middle of a crisis, but it would take this headache off his paws...

"Aquapool, wait," he called out wearily, following the duo at a slower pace. "Let him go, all right? Come over here and think this through with me before you go running off after a cat you barely know."

"Struggling, Risingdawn?" Her tone was silky smooth, yet it had a hint of ice within. Obviously, she had overheard. Not that she meant to, but she had merely run into them, and now, from the shadows of the undergrowth, she emerged.

"Leave them." Her stone cold moonstones watched the figures slip through the foliage of the forest, toward the two leg place. "It's her choice to choose love over the Clan." Clearly, there was no friendliness in her tone. She understood how it felt, but she never respected such foolishness from a cat. And, watching that she cat made her feel once again that emotions were the weakest link.

Snowsong flicked her lobes, glancing back to Risingdawn. Whether that feminine decided to return or not, she cared not. Each soul had their own rights, and she was not going to interfere; she didn't need her mate to get involved into some additional chaos either.

Boneshatter was long gone. Aquapool was flushed with embarrassment. Turning around, she padded back to camp sluggishly, tail dragging on the ground. Realizing what drama she has caused she stopped. Would they want me back? Shaking that out of her head, she continued on.

Suddenly rustling came from the bushes. Boneshatter! He lept out and landed on Aquapool. You stupid piece of fox-dung! Who would ever love you!? Aquapool drew a paw and slashed him across the face, claws extended. He jumped back, yowling. She darted away, but tripped over her sprained forepaw. Boneshatter jumped on her again. He slashed into her shoulder and she screeched in pain. Flinging him off, she then made her move and pounced on him.

I can't believe you tried to kill me! She yowled at him. Aquapool then raised her paw, claws out, and dug into his chest. His yowl turned into a gargling noise, it terrified Aquapool. She lept off of him and stared. He stood up and launched himslef at her. Boneshatter bit into her throat, buthe was too weak, leaving a near fatal wound in her throat, Aquapool collapsed. Boneshatter smiled, but it turned into a grimace, and he fell to the ground and his body convulsed and blood welled from the wound in his chest. He stopped moving, and shut his eyes.

Aquapool's eyes slanted. I killed hi-." Her voice was raspy and she was too weal to say anymore. Am I going to die here? Is This it for me? Her mind whirled faster and faster. Her heart pounded and she went unconscious

Aquapool was out of earshot by the time the words came out of Risingdawn's mouth; he sighed, about to follow after her, when a cold voice came out from the bushes behind him.

"Snowsong." The ginger warrior half turned, flicking his tail in greeting; still, he wasn't as warm as usual in greeting his mate. He shook his head.

"I don't know how well you know Aquapool, Snow, but...she's young. Emotional, immature. You know the type. I don't want to let her make a huge mistake just because she's a little young for her age...you don't have to listen, but I'm going to talk to her." Glancing at Snowsong's cool grey eyes, he added a little more forcefully, "I won't make her stay if she's determined not to. She has to think this through."

He turned to go, just as another commotion of yowls and crashing erupted not too far away in the forest. A muffled expletive escaped Risingdawn's mouth as he shot forward, then hesitated and glanced back at Snowsong. Clearly, he was a little embarrassed to be caught playing babysitter by someone who didn't approve of it -- someone whose opinion he truly valued; still, it sounded like real trouble this time. Shaking his head, the tom raced off to the source of the noise.

Naturally, he was a little disturbed to run in and find the two "lovers" in the aftermath of a fight -- and a serious one at that. He stopped dead still, completely poleaxed for about the fifteenth time that morning. Did this cat have some sort of charm to attract drama of all sorts?

"Ah, for StarClan's sake!"

The tom's frustrated shout echoed across the forest and he hurried over to Aquapool's side. The sight of her wound gave him a brief chill, especially considering the cat who had caused it (who appeared now to be dead; Risingdawn found he didn't care at the moment); he faltered, glancing back in hopes that Snowsong had followed him. Obviously Aquapool would need medical attention, but he didn't want to leave her alone while he fetched the medicine cat.

Aquapool's eyes flickered open. Riss, I'm sorry. She rasped. Her head lifted and turned to Boneshatter's limp body. I have broken the warrior code, haven't I? She looked to the sky. Oh StarClan, please forgive me. She layed her head back down and closed her eyes. Her fast breathing turned to slow even breaths. She was alright, but needed herbs quickly before her wound becomes infected.

It wasn't like she was going to listen. And it definitely showed that she wasn't going to listen once those yowls battered her eardrums. There was no hesitation as she leaped clear from the ground, landing on a few branches from a bush, only remaining on them for a second before she propelled herself forward. Not that she cared about the loner, but she knew too well that whenever a Clanmate ran off with a loner -- alone -- that trouble was anywhere but away.

The second Snowsong reached Risingdawn and Aquapool, she leaped over the tom, slowing her pace down only to glance back. "Stay here; I'll go fetch the medicine cat." Without awaiting a response, she was off, swiftly dashing through the undergrowth and weaving around any too difficult obstacles. She knew that a severe wound to the throat would cause the lifespan to go unstable. It would most likely be a swift, painful death from blood loss.

But she wasn't about to let a fellow warrior die, especially over immature actions. Not to mention, dying due to love was one of the dumbest reasons she found possible. It irritated her that such souls existed, but young ones had more to learn; much more. Through a bitterness that welled within her chest, she picked up speed toward Camp.
