EDIT 10.24// Read my next post, two down from this one. It makes more sense. xD
Okay, so.
I think it's been about a year now since the idea for this forum, and it's pretty awesome. We've got a really close-knit group here, even if it's small, and I'm glad we've built up to the point we have.
But...for a while we kind of had a core group, just a handful of members that've been here a while and got along. Now we've got some new members, some returning inactive members, and we're getting a little bigger. I'm getting the idea that along with that, there's going to be some style issues, and some personality rubs.
That's going to happen no matter what; it's a part of life. It's why we have admin. And that's why I want to post this thread.
Guys, I want us to have fun. I don't want us to be the fussy, rude admins who love rules and can't stand to see them bent. I don't want to be a stickler. Because of that, I play good cop a lot -- Emzie's yelled at me for it in the past, and rightly so. I gloss over problems and see the best side of people.
Hate to say it, but it's not a good thing and I can't afford to do it. Still, roleplay...the rights and wrongs of writing...it's a very subjective thing. What makes someone's post "good enough"? Where is the line between godmoding and assuming a small thing to write your full post? How can you differentiate an aggressive character and a powerplay?
I don't like to jump into problems, because what I see as a problem someone else might not, and because I don't like to offend people. Writing is such a touchy thing, and I love it so much -- I would hate to turn someone away from it because I said a hard word. One of the most unique voices I've ever roleplayed with became that way because I didn't call her out when she did something not quite "right". {Vic, you may know who I'm talking about. ^-^}
So here's my solution: I won't do it. If someone godmodes and you don't call them out on it, I'm not going to either. It's totally up to you whether you consider something a problem or not.
But on the other hand, I'm going to ask that if you DO have a problem, LET ME KNOW. I'm not including Emzie or Meppers in this because it's a personal request -- but they probably feel the same way. If you don't want to feel like a jerk you can PM/IM it to me -- being a jerk is, unfortunately, sometimes an admin's job. But don't let a problem fester because no one's acknowledged that it's there! If you see something wrong with someone's post, someone's profile, and we thought it was borderline and didn't make an issue of it -- SAY SO. I'm not going to do anything about it otherwise.
Basically...I'm trying to walk the line between 'official' and 'friend' here. I really, really want to be both, and I hope you guys can help me with this.
{Does this make any sense, btw? I'm not sure how well I explained myself...}
